Located just outside Hereford, there are some beautiful meadows that flank the meandering River Lugg, offering plenty of gravel beaches for easy access to the river.

Certain spots along this section of the River Lugg can get quite deep (up to 2 metres) so it’s a great place for experienced wild swimmers to practice their skills.

The west side of riverbank is easily accessibly via footpath following a short walk out of Hereford proper and into Lugg Meadows.

How to Get to Lugg Meadows

By car

Enter the postcode HR1 1UT into your sat nav, which will take you to the Cock of Tupsley pub. There is a lane which offers parking just off the A438 opposite the pub, which will put you right by the entrace of the nature reserve. Alternatively, there is plenty of parking available in Hereford and the meadows are walkable from the city.

By public transport

You can arrive into Hereford train station and go from there – it’s about a 25 minute walk to Lugg Meadows. The riverbank is a little further up through the meadows.

You can also take the A bus from the Merton Hotel near the train station to the White House stop by Tupsley Park, which is right in front of Lugg Meadows.

By bike

The footpath up the banks of the River Lugg may not offer the most ideal track for cycling, though there are plenty of routes in and around Hereford that crisscross the city and traverse the Rivers Lugg and Wye.
