One spot we’d recommend is located in the Nottingham-adjacent town of Beeston, which lies just 3 miles southeast of Nottingham city centre.

Following the path that runs alongside the River Trent eastward past the Weird Field Recreation Ground will lead you to a hedge-free clearing that allows you to access this canal section of the River Trent with relative ease, as seen in the companion photo on the left.

By car

Enter the postcode NG9 1LX into your sat nav, which will take you to the Weir Field Recreation Ground. You should be able to park up nearby.

From here, you can follow the path that runs alongside the River Trent eastward, as if you’re walking in the direction of Nottingham city itself. You will eventually come across a break in the hedgerow on the right where you can enter the water.

By public transport

Beeston station is located only a few hundred metres north of the Weir Field Recreation Ground, which is the gateway to this particular wild swimming spot.

Beeston station is on the Midland Main Line that runs between Nottingham and Leicester.

By bike
