Mid Wales, or Canolbarth Cymru in the Welsh is a large portion of the country of Wales which stretches across the areas of Powys in the east and Ceredigion and Meironnydd in the west and slightly to the north.
Being sparsely populated and largely agricultural, Mid Wales offers some of Wales’ most stunning scenery, with the Cambrian Mountains dominating the vista alongside the long and beautiful coastline. Wild swimmers can delight at what Mid Wales has to offer, owing to its lakes, beaches, waterfalls and rivers being plentiful and clear; perfect for a refreshing dip. Whether it’s a secluded spot across the Welsh Borderlands near the River Wye or some of the more forested wild swimming locations in the Elan Valley, Mid Wales is a great destination for wild swimming.
Owain is a particular advocate of Mid Wales owing to his Welsh roots which originate near the Aberystwyth area (hence the Welsh name spelling!) and spent many summers as a child and adult seeing family and enjoying the wild swimming opportunities the area has to offer.
