Denny Beck is a smaller stretch of the River Lune nearby Halton Bridge and on the south side of the river from the nearby village of Halton.
The wild swimming spot is beyond the bridge and beside the former Halton Railway Station.
There can be some fast-moving currents and deep water in places so do take care, though in general it’s a pleasant wild swimming location in Lancashire that is frequented by local swimming groups.
There is also a variety of wildlife inhabiting the riverbanks so be on the lookout! How to Get to the River Lune at Denny Beck

By car
Enter the postcode LA2 9HQ into your sat nav, which will take you to the former Halton Railway Station & Car Park. From here, you can follow the Denny Beck section of the River Lune (along Denny Beck Lane) and access the river for a swim from there.
Denny Beck is located off the A683 near junction 34 of the M6.
By public transport
Arrive into nearby Lancaster Station where you can then take the L1 bus from China Street to Caton Road park and ride.
From here, it’s a 15 minute walk along the A683 to Denny Beck. Don’t be put off by the potential walk down an A road – there are pavements and it’s actually quite a pretty walk with surrounding hills and fields.
By bike
There is a lovely cycle route that hugs the banks of the River Lune up from Lancaster on the way to Denny Beck. Take a right at Denny Beck lane and you’ll reach the spot in question.
There is some great cycle path infrastructure along the River Lune (you’ll see plenty of signposts detailing routes to nearby locations) and these are traffic free. Take a look at the route from Lancaster to Lune Valley.
