Frensham Great Pond is a popular wild swimming spot located between Farnham and Hindhead in southwest Surrey.

There are two ponds, the larger of the two (where swimming is allowed) features The Frensham Beach which has a cafe, toilets, and easy access to the water. The ponds are in a vast heathland that offers great walks and wildlife spotting opportunities.

Popular with families, Frensham Great Pond gets very busy on hot summer days on the weekend, with the car park often filling up by mid-morning. For year-round wild swimmers however, Frensham Great Pond is a great choice for a wild swimming spot in Surrey with a large water area that reaches about 1.5m in depth.

By car

Enter the postcode GU10 3DX into your sat nav, which will take you to the car park on Bacon Lane, which is just a stone’s throw away from the beach. The Frensham Great Beach is the only designated swimming area for the ponds.

Frensham Great Pond and Common is located between Farnham and Hindhead on the A287.

By public transport

The nearest train station is Farnham, which is just under four miles north of the ponds. From Farnham Train Station, you can catch the number 19 bus (to Haslemere) which stops opposite Great Frensham Ponds.

By bike

The Surrey Hills is a popular cycling area with plenty of routes in the vicinity of Frensham Great Ponds. One route to check out is the Frensham Loop, which takes you past both ponds along the heathland with some of the prettiest scenery in the Surrey Hills area.
