rhossili bay beach

Rhossili Bay, also known as Llangenith Sands to the locals, is a stunning 3 miles stretch of golden beach backed by beautiful sand dunes, bookended by the impressive Worm’s Head and Bury Holmes islands at either side. The beach is frequently listed in “best UK beaches” lists and it’s easy to see why.

Owain spent countless summers here as a kid and has enjoyed retracing his childhood memories in recent years by re-visiting as an adult.

Popular with surfers, the beach is also shadowed by Rhossili Down, which forms part of a popular National Trust walking route from the village of Rhossili on the western side all the way to the Hillend caravan park on the east side of the bay, offering breathtaking vistas of the beach along the way.

While the beach enjoys decent swells of up to 6ft and is a surfing hot spot, wave heights do fluctuate a lot and vary in size depending on conditions and where you are on the beach. The sheer length of the bay offers plenty of space for swimmers to enjoy too. If you’re interested in combining your swim with a surf or would rather visit at when the waves are calmer, check out the Rhossili Bay surf report.

From here, it’s probably worth walking either westward or eastward from the main dune entrance to Rhossili Bay to grab a quiet spot.
