Hidden along a section of the River Fowey within the Draynes Wood area of the Bodmin Moor, the fast-running Golitha Falls is a stunning series of cascades to marvel at set amid dense woodland.
There is a popular walking route upstream along the River Fowey that takes you past several series of falls offering opportunities for paddling.
The wild swimming spot at Golitha Falls is located a bit further upstream. Following the top of the cascades through a rough track will lead you to a hidden plunge pool with a sandy bottom which is surrounded by beautiful forest. Take care not to slip on the rocks along the way!
How to Get to Golitha Falls

By car
Enter the postcode PL14 6RX into your sat nav, which will take you to the Golitha Falls car park.
From the car park, follow the path for around 10 minutes along the River Fowey to the main section of the falls. There’s then another 10 or so minute walk around a rough path that will take you to the spot with the plunge pool.
By public transport
The nearest train station to Golitha Falls is located in the nearby market town of Liskeard, which is about 4 miles south. From here, you can take the 73 bus from the station to Commonmoor Turn, which takes about 50 minutes. Then, it’s a 25 minute walk to the nature reserve. This isn’t ideal, so it may just be worth getting a taxi from Liskeard which will only take 10 minutes.
You might also come into Plymouth by train, which is about a 40 minute drive to Golitha Falls National Nature Reserve.
By bike
Coming into Golitha Falls National Falls via the neighbouring B3254 road by bike is an option.
If you’re getting into Liskeard by train and plan to go on from there, check out the Caradon Trail which loops nearby the nature reserve and ends up at Common Moor, just a couple of kilometres away from the falls.
