The secluded Lumb Hole Falls, which offer pristine pools for swimming amidst dense Yorkshire woodland, sit amidst the beautiful Hardcastle Crags valley just north of the town of Hebden Bridge.

The falls themselves lie around 3 miles north of the town, so make sure you bring your hiking boots as you traverse the route through Hebden Bridge and the Hardcastle Crags which offers great woodland and Pennine scenery along the way.

You can drive up to a parking spot nearby the falls, though the walk up from Hebden Bridge or nearby Midgehole and around the Hardcastle Crags is one of the best in the country in terms of raw natural beauty, and the reward of a cool dip in the falls at the end will be tempting for many.

The circular route up from Hebden Bridge will take around 3 to 4 hours though this will enable you to take in many of the highlights of the Hardcastle Crags. The falls themselves offer a great relaxation spot for a picnic and a swim. Just make sure to check the depth of the falls when you visit as this can of course vary at different times of the year.

By car

If you want to drive up to the falls straight, enter the postcode HX7 8RG into your sat nav, which will take you to the junction between Old Road and Cross Ends Lane where there is limited parking available The falls are just 100m southwest of here.

If you fancy embarking on one of the walks, you can park up at Hebden Bridge (we recommend Garden Street car park on HX7 8AQ) or closer to the falls and Hardcastle Crags at Midgehole Car Park (HX7 7AL). The walk up to the falls through the valley is well-signposted and well-traversed, though check out some of the links above which will give you detailed walking instructions.

By public transport

The nearest train station is Hebden Bridge, about 3 miles south of Lumb Hole Falls, and if you’re walking up you can start your hike from here.

You can also take the 595 bus from Hebden Bridge Station to Pecket Well, alighting at Keighley Road Broad Shaw. The falls are about a 15 minute walk up Old Road as you walk in parallel to the Crimsworth Dean Beck.

By bike

The bike ride heading up from Hebden Bridge will follow the A6033 where the falls can be accessed via Sunny Bank Road.
