Gosfield Lake, situated a few miles north of Braintree in north Essex and 30 minutes from Colchester, offers a great day out for all the family and features a variety of aquatic activities such as water skiing and kayaking.

The lake itself is only around 5 feet deep meaning a safe experience for all levels of open water swimmer.

You will need to book an open water swimming slot via the resort website or the Gosfield Lake Open Swimming Facebook Page and there are dedicated swimming sessions throughout the week. Check out their website for further info around what to wear (including swim caps) and other useful FAQs.

How to Get to Gosfied Lake

By car

Enter the postcode CO9 1UD into your sat nav, which will take you straight to the resort where there is plenty of visitor parking.

Gosfield Lake is located in the village of Gosfield nearby the town of Halstead, off the A131 north of Braintree.

By public transport

The nearest train station is Braintree, though if you’re coming from a southernly direction then it may be best to get off at Braintree Freeport station, after which you can take the 38 bus to Halstead and alight at Church Road. From here, Gosfield Lake is a 10 minute walk along Church Road.

There are also plenty of bus routes if you’re coming from Colchester way, though this will take longer.

By bike
